Abstract

nt cause of morbidity among both children and adults. Tobacco smoking, both active and passive i.e., exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) has got important effects on asthma. Parental smoking is commonly associated with increased asthma symptoms, respiratory infections, acute episodes and frequent hospitalization of children. Bronchial responsiveness and airway sensitization may also increase. Childhood exposure to smoking is also considered as risk factor for the development of asthma.
This work was done to study the effect of passive smoking on the incidence of allergic sensitization in asthmatic children in Beni-Suef Govern aerate.
This cross sectional study was done at pediatric allergy and immunology clinic in Beni- Suef university hospital in the period from 1\10 \2010 to 31\7\2011.
The studied children were 100 asthmatic children diagnosed clinically to have Bronchial asthma were subjected to full medical history laying stress on history of respiratory symptoms and repeated attacks of wheezes, family history of bronchial asthma, history of passive smoking, full clinical examination laying stress chest examination.
Children were subjected to skin prick test with different indoor and out door allergens, measurement of total serum IgE count and Esinophilic count.
In our study children were divided into two groups (group A is 60 child who were exposed to passive smoking)
(Group B is 40 child who were not exposed to passive smoking)
Male patients are 69.
Female patients are31.
Our study showed that passive smoking increased the severity of bronchial asthma among studied groups compared to no history of passive smoking and increases the risk of hospitalization compared to no history of passive smoking.
Passive smoking has no effect on the allergic sensitization among studied asthmatic children.
