Abstract The present study was undertaken to investigate the academic and professional language needs of students of Educational Technology, design an ESP course that might cater for these specified needs and determine to what extent the proposed course is effective in satisfying the students’ academic and professional needs. To analyze the data derived from the needs’ assessments, the frequencies of occurrence were calculated and computed as percentages. T-test was used to analyze the difference between means of scores of the pre and post test administrations. The researcher concluded that students’ needs should be the guidelines for designing English language courses. Aims of the course should be clearly stated. Students should be aware of course aims from the beginning. ESP instruction develops learners’ achievement in the language as well as enhances their understanding in the areas of specialization. This type of teaching is so much needed at the university level. |
