Abstract Ankylosing spondylitis is one of the seronegative spondyloarthropathies which are characterised by a number of common features as involvement of sacroiliac joints , peripheral inflammatory arthropathy and absence of rheumatoid factor( Wright et al., 1983) Heart disease is a well recognised complication of ankylosing spondylistis The most characteristic lesions are aortic incompetence and conduction defects . The spectrum of disease is wide and include mitral valve disease , cardiomyopathy and pericarditis (0’ Neill ,1992). Doppler echocardiography is a non - invasive relatively simple and has a potentially important application to the clinical and investigative assessement of ventricular funciton ( Spirito and Maron 1988). The aim of this study is to reevaluate the cardiac involvement in patients with ankylosing spondylitis using Echo - Doppler imaging technique. |
