Abstract
Many reseonhe work has been done to explain the responsibility of different causes in chronicity of leg ulcers eg. venous, arterial, traumatic or other miscefl aneous causes, Also many types of investigations have been done to discover the exact cause in order to treat ulcers well e.g. venography, lymphangiography, angiography.,
However, chronic lsg ulcers remain a woblem to patients and doctors. Patients suffer greately from the bad offensive distressing discharge with even inability to wprk. They Pay much for treatment of their ulcers which resist, in many times, the treatment whether medical or surgical even with recurrences. Also, chronic lag ulcers i a problem for doctors whether general surgeons, plastic surgeons or dermatologists as it is common in medical practice to misdiagnosis and mismanagement. Even when dtagnosis becomes certain, in many times, ulcer resists healing, inspite of different types of management including skin grafting, sympathectomy stripping and others dependi o the cause,
It is difficult to estimate accurately the patients suffering from leg ulcer in Egypt due to lack of accurate statistics as many patients are treated as outpatient and only small nLUilbCr is admittend as inati.ent ct!sr e’-a of of different arecialists. However, we can roughly say that incidence of chronic leg ulcer is still high as exposure to trauma becomes more and drug induced ulcers is increasing and other factors are also responsible.
Chronic leg ulcers take much time from researchers to prove or disprove multiple factors responsible for cironicity of the ulcer, recently importance of lymphatics as a contributing cause for chronicity has ieen noticed; so a detailed study of lymphatic system of the leg has to be done.
