The most common cause of SCD in old age are mostly related to coronary artery disease. However, the matter looks different in young age as it is noticed that the most frequent causes are related to serious arrhythmias. A group of these serious arrhythmias which causes SCD are related to genetic abnormality in ion channels of cardiac muscles. This group of genetic abnormality in ion channels is so called ”channelopathies”, which includes Long QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome. Unfortunately, most of patients who have these conditions are asymptomatic and in some cases the first presentation could be SCD. This study aimed at detection of channelopathies in young non symptomatic patient who are not complaining from any cardiac problems. So, this study was done in Research Institute of Ophthalmology for patients who would undergo ophthalmological surgery as preoperative assessment from the period from May 2011 to May 2012. 984 individuals were enrolled in this study, they were subjected to full medical and family history of risk factors for cardiac problems, clinical examination, 12 leads ECG and Echocardiography was done to suspected cases. |
