Abstract

Presence of pharmaceuticals in waste water enables certain types of bacteria with high resistance to antibiotics to grow. Trails were performed in this work to remove them by adsorption to the surface of some natural and synthetic fibers. Cellulose, chitosan and alginates were examples for the natural fibers while a novel polymer was prepared from urea and epichlorohydrin to be used as an example for synthetic fibers. The Shape of these fibers was changed from powder to beads. In addition combinations of natural and synthetic fibers have been prepared as a form of beads. Alginate was blended with cellulose, chitosan and synthetic polymer in bead formulations while chitosan was blended with synthetic polymer in another formula. The structure of the synthetic polymer was studied using FTIR and solid state NMR. The structure of the prepared beads was examined using FTIR, SEM, XRD and thermal analysis
