Abstract

The research is a study for the faults which encounter the gas turbine units (Model MS-9001) 120 M Watt used in Cairo South Power Station. In the initial stage a statistical analysis is performed for all fault cases which were detected with each of the gas turbine units during one year period. Such analysis is needed to establish some quantitave measures for the different faults concerning their probabilities and frequancies occurance. Also, to point out the relation between these faults and the unit subsystems, as well as, the units working conditions (load, working hours).
In the second stage of the research, a data base file is constructed contain the available information about each known fault for such gas turbine units. This data base file represents an extension for the soft ware used by the coputer control system of the units. It provides the technical staff at the power station with a fast and accurate mean for locating the faculty component and talking the suitable counter action in each fault case.
In the third stage , a detailed study is conducted for some fault cases which have high frequency of occurance. For each fault case the high component responsible for the trouble are located and the damages caused by the fault are pointed out and explained.
Finally , the necessary modifications and recommendations for the treatment of such faults are given and discussed . In such way the research provides the staff working in a similar power troubleshooting which faces the gas turbine unit. This will help them in both the diagnostic and treatment stages for such trouble shooting.
As the result of that a high reliability factor can be achieved with a similar power station with considerable reduction in the cost of the maintenance and shotdown.
