Abstract This study was conducted at EL-Minia University Hospital during the period from December 2011 to November 2011, the study involved 60 female patients of ASA I physical status, aged 18-30 years old, and undergoing elective diagnostic gynecological laparoscopy general anesthesia and informed consent from each case was obtained. Patients were randomly divided into two equal groups; Group A (Placebo group, n=30) received placebo tablet (neurobion !ablet (GlaxoWellcome)) the night before surgery (12 am) and again 1 h oefore induction of anesthesia. Group B (melatonin group, n=30) received 10mg oral melatonin lablet (Pharmavite LLC Mission Hills, USA) the night before surgery (12 am) and again 1 h before induction of anesthesia. The aim of this study was to investigate the preemptive analgesic and sedative effect of oral melatonin on female patients undergoing dayyase diagnostic gynecologicallaparoscopy. The study drug sample (melatonin or placebo tablets) was given orally the night before surgery (12 am) and again 1 h before induction of anesthesia. Induction of general anesthesia was performed intravenously with 1 mg/kg lidocaine, 2 mg/kg propofol, 1.5 mg/kg fentanyl, and 0.5 mg/kg atracurium. |
