Abstract Rhinosinusitis is one of the most common diseases, with a substantial negative health impact due to this disease. Bacteriological studies in rhinosinusitis recover different results depending on many factors. The aim of the present study was to study the bacterial and fungal causes of sinusitis in patients attending ENT department in Benha University Hospital. The study included 40 patients attending ENT department in Benha University Hospital. They were subjected to careful history taking, thorough clinical examination, radiological examination and laboratory investigations including bacteriological and fungal studies. Among the 40 patients included in the current study, there were 21 females (52.5 %) and 19 males (47.5 %). They had a mean age of 23.0 ± 18.4 years. In the present study, the reported predisposing factors included nasal polyposis in 33 patients (82.5 %), DM in 7 patients (17.5 %) and athma or atopy in 6 patients (15.0 %). In our study, the most commonly encountered organisms in the studied patients were Haemophilus influenza (44.4 %) followed by Streptococcus pneumonia (27.8 %) and Staphylococcus aureus (27.8 %). |
