Abstract

In the current study, CD68 and CD1a were immunohistochemically evaluated in 61 cases of classical Hodgkin lymphoma with regard to various clincopathological parameters including response to therapy.
In CHL cases, the age of patients ranged between 4 and 80 years old with a median of 31 years, and 89.9% of patients were ≤ 60years. The male gender was predominant. 34.4% (21/61) of patients demonstrated elevated LDH level (>500IU/L). Splenic involvement was present in 18% of cases while bone marrow involvement was noticed in 14.8% of patients. 62.3% of patients had more than one lymph node involvement. More than half 75.4%) of the patients were of good Revised International Prognostic Index.
However, about one third (36.1%) of cases were presented with a stage III at the first time. Most of the cases responded to therapy completely (40/61 65.6%).
Total effacement of nodal architecture was identified in 85.2% (52/61)and 14.8% of cases showed capsular and perinodal invasion.
Granulomatous background was present in 19.7% of patients. The studied CHL were classified into nodular sclerosis (33cases), mixed cellularity (20cases), lymphocytic rich (5 cases) and lymphocytic depletion (3 cases).
All cases showed positive expression of CD68 with a percentage ranged between 10% and 80% with a median of 40.00 which was used as a cutoff point to divide cases into high (>40%) and low (≤40%) expression groups.
There was no significant relationship between CD68 expression in CHL and different studied clinicopathological parameters including response to therapy.
With regard to CD1a, 54.1% of cases (33/61) showed positive expression with a percentage ranged between 0.5% and 40% with a median value of 7 that was used as cutoff point to divide the positive cases into high (>7% ) and low (≤ 7%) expression groups.
