Abstract

The theoretical analysis developed in this research is to investigate the behaviour of the web panel subjected to shear loading in the post-buckling stage in order to obtain the value of the maximum shear loading. The boundary conditions of such a panel is chosen to be built-in with the girder flanges and simply supported at the transverse stiffeners locations. The post-buckling behaviour is established through a non-linear analysis based on assuming a suitable deflection function which satisfies exactly the boundary conditions and expand the solution to satisfy both equilibrium and compatibility equations. This was achieved by using the minimum potential energy concept.
4-2 Conclusions
The theoretical analysis for predicting the behaviour of plates and stiffened panels under pure shear which has been presented in the previous chapters were used to obtain a variety of results. This resulting data lead to the following conclusions:
1. It was possible to derive the necessary theoretical equations linking the acting shears stress with the maximum deflection at the posttbuckling range. Hence, the stress function was obtained from which the differenent components of the stresses (membrane and bending) can be evaluated.
2. Based on suitable yield criteria, it was possible to establish a wide range of graphs to the relation between the slenderness ratio.
