Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the effect of LASIK on the osterior corneal surface, and to evaluate them as regard changes of the osterior corneal curvatures (Rh; horizontal radius, RV; vertical radius, Km; le mean keratometric power), asphericity and changes of the posterior orneal elevation.
Fifty eyes of twenty-seven patients were included in this study. All yes were myopic eyes either with or without astigmatism or simple myopic ltigmatism with a mean spherical equivalent of-6.5±3.09D. Pediateric atients, patients with history of ocular, corneal or refractive surgery were xcluded. Also, patients with central corneal thickness less than 480 micron, atients with too flat (less than 40D) or too steep (more than 48D) corneas od patients with complicated LASIK procedures were also excluded.
LASIK was performed between January and August 2011 and entacam was performed preoperatively, one week and three months ostoperati vel y.
Statistically significant decrease (P value= 0.04) of the radius of the ertical meridian (RV)was foundone week afterLASIK then increased after rree months to near its value pre-LASIK.
Also, statistically significant decrease of the mean keratometric ower of the posterior corneal surface (Km) (P value= 0.04)was detected e week after LASIK but increased after three months to its pre-LASIK nue.
Also, asphericity(Q-value) of the posterior surface decreased gnificantly after LASIK(P value=O.OOl).
Forward bulge of the posterior corneal surfaceat 4mm zone from the mter was detected both one week and three months (significantly with p lue of 0.001& 0.002 respectively) after LASIK while at 7 mm zone.
