Abstract

The electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a diagnostic tool that is routinely used to assess the electrical and muscular functions of the heart. While it is a relatively simple test to perform, the interpretation of the ECG tracing requires significant amounts of training (Wedro, 2012).
It is used for detecting many cardiac problems as angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, and arrhythmias. Nurses should provide sufficient explanation to the patient to achieve relaxation and comfortable, document cardiac drugs on the request of the ECG, verbal consent should be obtained from the patient, the nurse should guide patient to do not move or speak during procedure, should monitor patients closely for electrical conduction disturbances, Finally ECG record should be informed to physician as soon as possible so that further treatment orders can be obtained (Dincher, 2005).
