Abstract

Having investigated both Al Majaaz and metaphor in the sense that a comprehensive comparison has been made to compare their different aspects, it has been concluded that they have the same function and uses, yet they are structurally different.
Hermeneutic analysis has been used in the current studX as an attemIlt to trans tate metaIlhor from Engish into Arabic with application on one of Shakespeare’s masterpieces, namely, Romeo and Juliet.
To analyze the text hermeneutically, the researcher adopts the approach of analyzing the given text in regard to the following three elements, namely, the author, the text and the reader. The author element is analyzed on the basis of Schleielmacher’s Vlews. The text element IS analyzed semantically and pragmatically. The reader is studied according to the reception theory of Hans Robert Jauss. The study has analyzed the nature of the metaphor and detected the areas of difficulty in the process of translating them and accordingly, it has been recommended by the study’s findings that translators should analyze metaphorical texts hermeneutically according to the adopted frame work of analysis in this study in order to accomplish an adequate translation.
The current study’s analysis revealed that Ba-Katheer adopted the description technique when he translated Romeo and Juliet and this has been observed in his translation. It has also been concluded that Moness has adopted the interpretative technique in translating Romeo and Juliet. It has been concluded also that Enanny has adopted a hermeneutic approach in translating Romeo and Juliet.
Having investigated the impact of the hermeneutic approach on translation of metaphor from English into Arabic with application on one of Shakespeare’s masterpieces, namely, Romeo and Juliet, it has been concluded that in order to reach the most comprehensive understanding of a given text, translators should analyze the text hermeneutically. And this could be achieved through analyzing the 3 -element hermeneutic.
