Abstract A PalaeogrphiCal Study of Demotic Documents from Tuna aI-Gebel Necropolis throughout the Greco-Roman Periods Archaeology & Civilization department, Egyptology Ramification Faculty of Arts, Helwan University Tuna aI-Gebel is situated in Minya province, SIX kilometers to the west of the village of al-Ashmunein, the ancient town of Hermopolis (Magna). This site has a large amount of Demotic texts which was written ~l\ Papyri, Pottery Coffins, Ostraca, Limestone Sarcophagi, Wooden Coffins, Wooden Tablets, Graffiti, Pebble-stones, MetaL .. etc Despite the availability of . these texts, it has not been studied palaeographicaly before. from this study we can conclude the following: 1. There are many differences in the palaeographical features of Tuna al ¬Gebel Demotic script, which were described in the study. 2. J cannot confirm -till now- what scribal school that has more influence on the palaeo graphical style in Tuna al- Gebel? To achieve that, we need more comDilri on ~tu~iys for the style of lower, upper, and rnMdle ’Boypt. J. The study sMrched the influence of wTltlng mater~als on ’tl\~ Qtyw or writing in Tuna al- Gebel. 4. The study attested a lot of personal names many of them are not attested in the Demottsche Namenbuch. 5. The study also searched Deities, Toponyms, Measurements, Dating, Number and Fractions, Titles that were mentioned in Tuna al- Gebel Demotic documents. 6. The study searched the palaeo graphical features of same pebble stones, and Graffiti which were found in Tuna al- Gebel. |
