Abstract
The Ilizarov circular fixator is an ideal method of treatment for those
high–energy fractures when extensive dissection and internal fixation are
hazardous or contraindicated due to presence of a wound, trauma to the
soft tissues, deficiency of bone stock, and bony comminution.
In this study we treated 30 patients with open tibial shaft fractures
Gustillo II & III using ilizarov technique. Surgical technique ,results, and
complication of treatment are discussed in details .
Our results are comparable to international studies and we concluded
that ilizarov circular fixator sustains strongly with the recommendation
that external fixators must be the treatment or choice for these high –
open tibial shaft fractures.
