Abstract This study aimed at investigating the effect of metacognitive strategies in developing some writing skills for 1st year secondary stage students. The researcher used Metacognitive strategies ; Planning ,Monitoring and Evaluating to develop Some Writing Skills for the 1 st Year Secondary Stage Students. Eighty –two 1 st Secondary Students (40 students for the experimental group and, 40 students for the control group ) were randomly selected from one of Giza governmental schools ,namely Mubarak secondary school for boys , throughout the school year 2007-2008. The researcher taught the selected Metacognitive strategies on the experimental group . A pre-post writing test was administered to both the experimental and the control group . T.test was used to determine the differences between the mean scores. Analysis of data obtained revealed significant difference between the two groups in favor of the experimental group .
