Abstract

This thesis presents comparisons between fastening systems of
different techniques to increase the flexural and shear capacity of
reinforced concrete beams strengthened with Carbon fiber reinforced
polymer (CFRP) strips and Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP)
laminates using externally bonded techniques without and with
mechanical anchoring.
A series of flexural and shear tests were conducted on
18 (100*200*1200 mm) reinforced concrete beams. The beams were
tested in three point bending, under the effect of concentrated central
load incrementally increasing until failure.
A comparative study of fastening methods on 18 reinforced
concrete beams repaired and strengthened using glass fiber reinforced
polymers (GFRP) laminates and carbon fiber reinforced polymers
(CFRP) strips using externally and mechanically anchorage systems, and
also the installation efficiency, level of strengthening achieved, and
preventing strip de-lamination before concrete crushing. Then, both
flexural behavior and failure mode of those beams have been studied.
Keywords: Flexural strengthening; Shear strengthening; Concrete
reinforced Beams; Carbon fiber reinforced polymers strips; Glass fiber
reinforced polymers laminates; Anchorage with bolts.
