Abstract

The VAVSTAR/GLOBAL positioning system (GPS)will provide extremely accurate 3-d position and velocity informations, to users anywhere in the world, wich
are important for surveying purposes
.Merits of the global positioning system (GPS) will provide extremely accurate 3-D position and velocity informations, to users anywhere in the world, which are important for surveying purposes. The position determinations are based on the measurements of the transit time of radio frequency ( RF ) signals from 4- satellites of a total constellation of 21-satellites. Accuracies on the order of i p.p.n may be anticipated. In additional techniques and present satellite systems. Therefore, the GPS system is a very good for surveying applications.
This thesis aims to analyize the glopal positioning system (GPS) with its principles for surveying purposes, discussing the basic techniques by which the system operates, the navigation signal, the measurement models, errors sources, accuracies, solutions of GPS positioning problems, other characteristics of the system balancing the mathematical and non-mathematical approaches, and making this study a useful base for future researches connected with the GPS system.
In addition, accuracy analysis of the GPS system basedon different tests made allover the world is performed. Static applications of the system related to geodetic control networks, engineering surveying and mapping, earth dynamics and deformation measurements are treated. GPS observations in Egypt which have been recently done for special purposes are included. Finally, essential recommentations concerning the applications, refinement and future studied of the GPS system are stated.
