Abstract
This Jroject provide data about the changes that occur in the optic nerv . with age. Right optic nerve were used as a central nervous m)del for the study of the process or ageing in Spargueedawely rat· were used it as experin1ental animal in thi:) work. The right optic nerve was studied at different age groups. The results of the pres:nt work indicated that:
1- at one week age group there are myeliqated nerve fibers. With progress in the age therc (lrc increase in the nUlnber of myelinated axons vvith agc.
2- This increase in the nUlnber of Inyelinalcd axons is
to SOlne extent linear. At young age group (one, two three weeks) there are predominance of small dimneter axons while at [our and cight weeks group there are increasing number or large diamcter axons.
