Abstract

This work was chosen to represent a study of the structural and many physical properties of virgin PES polymer and polymer that filled with various concentrations of different types of metal halides namely FeCl3 or LiBr. Pure PES polymer and the polymer filled with different concentrations of FeCl3 (first system) and LiBr (second system) have been prepared using solution casting technique. Pure PES polymer and the polymer filled with different concentrations of FeCl3 (first system) and LiBr (second system) have been prepared using solution casting technique. FT-IR manifested the conclusion about the specific interaction between the polymer and the filler. Results of the optical measurements indicated the presence of a well-defined   * transition which comes from unsaturated bonds, mainly; C=C and/or S=O, which is responsible for electrical conduction in the samples. The values optical energy band gap Eg, the Urbach energy tail Eu and steepness parameter were evaluated and their dependence on filling was investigated. The conductivity has been improved after filling with FeCl3 and LiBr as indicated in XRD and electrical conductivity studies.
All previously mentioned results suggest that this system can be used in some applications like lithium polymer batteries electrochemical devices and this is the main purpose of this thesis.
