Abstract For a long time; the morphological and anatomical features were considered to be the most basic features for the classification of algae in general. As a result, many problems appeared, as for example, the problem of polymorphism for the same algal species under different ecological factors. This, and many others, forced the taxonomists to search for others evidences to classify algae. The biochemical features, beside the morphological and anatomical features, were then proposed to be effective tools, that can be used for drowing a more stable and reasonable classification system. |
