Abstract

An experimental S. aureus vaccine was produced from as identified filed isolates recovered from birds (Broiler, layers and breeders) with osteo -arthritis lesions. The vaccine contained whole culture, formalin inactivated S. aureus bacteria plus their toxoid with mineral oils as adjuvant. A preliminary study using single dose of the vaccine showed that double and triple vaccine injection provided 70 and 82% protection, respectively in vaccinated mice.
Against lethal homologous challenge the same vaccine with adjuvanted form stimulated the production of moderate level of both anti bacterial antibodies in vaccinated birds compared to unvaccinated controls.
