Abstract

Congenital heart diseases may be defined as an anatomic malformation of the heart or great vessels.CHD may be classified into acyanotic and cyanotic depending upon whether the patient clinically exhibit cyanosis. Paroxsysmal supraventricular tachycardia is the most common symptomatic arrhythmia in young patients. It affects children of all ages.
The cardiac catheterization laboratory is one of the most challenging and unpredictable environments in which to provide anesthesia. Indications for interventional cardiac catheterization and procedures performed consisting of septal defect closure, angioplasty procedures, valvuloplasty procedures and catheter ablation of arrhythmias.
Pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists have played a major role in moving forward the whole field of treatment of CHD. The purpose of providing premedications for children is to decrease anxiety, thereby decreasing total body oxygen consumption and avoiding hyperdynamic cardiovascular state. After admission of the patient to intensive care unit the patient should undergo a full assessment. Anesthesiologist and pediatric physicians caring for patients after catheterization should be fully aware of any conduction or rhythm disturbance that occurred during procedures.
Interventional cardiology can be associated with significant complications attributed to the procedures or the physiology of the child. Complications such as cardiac tamponade, dysrhythmia, embolism and rupture may be sudden and without warning
