Abstract The present study aimed to evaluate nurses’ implementation of suctioning procedure at rcu. The study was conducted at rcu of Tanta University Hospitals at Mobark and NeuroPsychiatry Hospitals. The subjects were all (120) nurses working at rcu, nurses working in Mobark hospital were 49 and71 in Neuropsychiatry hospital. Two tools were used to collect data; Tool 1 composed of two parts; a-Demographic characteristic of nurses. b- Suctioning procedure observation check list items. The items divided into the steps of oropharengeal and artificial airway suctioning, includes endotracheal suctioning and tracheostomy suctioning. The tool of each suction procedure composed of seven main steps. Steps include assessment of signs and symptoms indicating suction, preparation necessary equipment and supplies, prepare patient for suction, intervention &implementation of suctioning, maintenance asepsis post suctioning, evaluation patient outcome and documentation of suctioning procedure. Nurses responses were measured on 4 point Likert scale (0-3) as (3) for complete done, (2) for partially done, (1) for incorrectly done and (0) for not done. |
