Abstract

The infestation rate with Ixodid ticks among cattle and buffaloes in Beni-Suef Governorate were 38.00% and 20.76% respectively where cattle showed its highest peak of infestation with hard ticks during the Summer season (61.96%) followed by the autumn and Spring in a rate 40 and 37.59 % respectively then decreased in Winter as 7.29%. And buffaloes showed its highest peak of infestation with hard ticks during the Summer season (35.15%) followed by the autumn and Spring in a rate 24.24 and 17.64% respectively but there were no infestation in the Winter among buffaloes.
Cattle were infested by B.annulatus and H.anat.excavatum in a rate 86.84% and 4.82% respectively. In addition other examined animals infested with the two species together in a rate 8.33% . While buffaloes were infested with H.anat.excavatum and B.annulatus in a rate 74.07% and 22.22% respectively and only one case infested with the two species together.
Cattle showed highest peak of infestation with B.annulatus during the Summer season (88.12%) followed by Autumn, Spring and Winter at rate of 87.5% , 86.79% and 70% respectively.
On the other hand, cattle showed highest peak of infestation with H.anat.excavatum during the Spring season (5.66%) followed by summer then Autumn with percentage of 4.95% and 4.69% respectively , While in winter there were no infestation.
But for buffaloes the infestation rate with H.anat.excavatum showed its highest peak during the spring season (100%) followed by Autumn and summer seasons with percentage of 62.5% and 61.54%. But there is no infestation during winter season.
Beside that buffaloes showed highest peak of infestation with B.annulatus during the summer season (30.77%) followed by Autumn (25%) . But there is no infestation during the spring and winter.
Control of hard ticks with herbal plants , The study revealed that Garlic oil has remarkable acaricidal effect on ticks in the laboratory, where 10% concentration aqueous solution of Garlic oil caused 100% mortality of adult engorged female B.annulatus through 24h post treatment using the adult immersion method for 2min .
Application of Garlic oil 10% on eggs of B.annulatus and incubation of eggs in 28c and 85% Relative humidity, through 15day no hatching occurred even to 30days .
Beside that the eggs appeared with abnormalities (wrinkled, spindle in shape and change in color ).
In addition , the same concentration 10% caused 100% mortality on 15day old larvae of B.annulatus through 24h post treatment using the larval packet test in application.
In comparable with the control groups either of adults or larvae remained alive without any mortality and the non treated eggs hatched normally after 12day in the same conditions.
These results of Garlic oil compared with chemical acaricide ; Deltamethrin (Bytox®) where the results revealed that 2cm3/L aqueous solution of deltamethrin caused 100% mortality of adult engorged female B.annulatus through 72h after application using the adult immersion method for 2min while 1cm3/L aqueous solution of deltamethrin caused 80% mortality of adult engorged female B.annulatus through 72h after application.
