Abstract

The kinetics of oxidation of the cobalt(II) complexes, [Co
II
(ADA)-
(H2O)3] and [Co
II
(ADA)(M)(H2O)2]
2-, (ADA = N-(2-acetamido) iminodi-acetic acid and M = Malonate) by periodate in aqueous acetate medium to
cobalt(III) have been studied spectrophotometrically at 565 nm over the 25 –
40
o
C range at pH = 4.99 and I = 0.50 mol dm
-3
under pseudo first order
condition by taking large excess of oxidant (IO4
-).
The oxidation of [Co
II
(ADA)(H2O)3] by periodate in presence of Mn(II)
catalyst was also studied.
Also The kinetics of oxidation of the cobalt(II) complexes,
[Co
II
(ADA)(Su)(H2O)]
2-and [Co
II
(ADA)(Ma)(H2O)]
2-, by periodate in
aqueous medium to cobalt(III) have been studied spectrophotometrically at
565 nm over the 30 – 50
o
C range at pH = 4.99 and I = 0.30 mol dm
-3
under
pseudo first order condition by taking large excess of oxidant (IO4
-)
