Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the epidemiologic information of dogs referred for investigation of fever, to determine the usefulness of various diagnostic investigations and to assess the effect of treatment presence of fever at referral, and after treatment, analysis hematologic and biochemical difference between feverish dehydrated dogs and non feverish dehydrated dogs and the ability to reach a final diagnosis. Epidemiological, physical and clinical data were collected, microscopic examination was performed, hematologic, and biochemical analysis was done, the utility of different diagnostic investigations (IC, IFAT, ELISA, PCR, RT-PCR) was performed, and cases were classified according to the final diagnosis. Results showed preliminary data collected depends on history physical, clinical signs and hematologic and biochemical analysis proved to be useful for establishing presumptive diagnosis and confirmation of diagnosis need more sophisticated techniques. This study documents a high incidence of infectious disease in dogs referred for investigation of fever. Of the diagnostic modalities employed in the majority of cases, clinical, hematology, biochemistry and advanced techniques were the most useful. The diagnosed diseases were canine parvovirus enteritis, canine distemper, canine Ehrlichioisis and canine Babesiosis.
