Abstract

Although camel diseases received little attention in the field of veterinary research in Egypt, the skin abscesses and pyogenic wounds are perhaps the most important affections of camels. Only 125 skin swabs were collected from diseased camels to examine the presence of bacterial pathogen. The results indicated that 95 samples (76%) were positive with variable Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria that were isolated, while 30 samples (24%) were negative. The identification of the recovered isolates showed: 40 isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, 3 isolates of Streptococcus pyogenes, 2 isolates of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis, 25 isolates of Escherichia coli and 25 isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. To detect the susceptibility or resistance of the previous recovered isolates, 17 different types of antibacterial sensitivity discs with variable concentrations were used in the laboratory.
