Abstract The wideband wireless communication system is becoming popular for its capability to achieve high data rate wireless transmission. This thesis concentrates on the applications of on-chip spiral inductor in the design of wireless radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for many important applications such as, common source amplifier, transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs), low noise amplifiers (LNAs) and voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs). The development of System-on- Chip (SOC) requires integration of discrete components on microchips. Micro magnetic components such as inductors are critical for RF SOC. CMOS offers the potential for higher levels of integration since the analog circuits can be integrated with digital circuits on the same substrate. Therefore, implementing wideband circuits using CMOS technology has become one of the most important topics in the RF circuit design. On-chip spiral inductor lumped model have been proposed. Also, multi-layer metals on-chip inductors have been used in CMOS RFICs, where inductors typically consume a significant portion of the chip Size. |
