Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of using graded levels of the prebiotic ”Bio-Mos®” or the prebiotic (T-Protphyt 2000) with or without 17- α- methyl testosterone hormone in diets of Nile tilapia newly hatched fry, on their growth, carcass physico-chemical characteristics, and testosterone residues.
Conclusively from the obtained results, it could recommend the use of male sexual hormone (17- methyltestosterone) at the commercially used dietary concentration (as used herein, 60 mg/Kg feed) during 21 days for the newly hatched fry for sex reverse in producing all male mono-sex tilapia fry without any harms from the hormone residues. There was no benefit from using Bio-Mos®; yet, the dietary inclusion of T-Protphyt 2000 (at 4 g/Kg feed) was beneficial in increasing body weight and growth rates of the Nile tilapia fry. The obtained results may lead to produce all male mono-sex Nile tilapia to obtain more fish production with quick capital cycle and economic as well as environmental friendly product which is safe for human consumption.
