Abstract
Vocal fold nodules is a benign mass of tissue that grows on the vocal folds. There is great controversy regarding the treatment of vocal fold nodules , whether surgical or conservative treatment.
Our study was a systematic review about the management of vocal cord nodules, to find which is better surgical or non – surgical intervention.
That was done by the following steps :
1- Determination of the target subject .
2- Identification and location of articles.
3- Screening and evaluation of articles .
4- Data collection.
5- Data analysis.
6- Discussion and conclusions.
We analysed 13 articles selected from 58 articles and abstracts according to the previously selected inclusion criteria and its analysis using meta analytic soft ware ( Revman 5).
The results were as follow:
The study analysed 7 articles that measure the cure rate of surgical treatment for vocal fold nodules , there were 395 patients (87.2 %) from 453 patients cured after surgical treatment.
The study analysed 6 articles that measure the cure rate of conservative treatment, there were 169 patients (55.8%) from 303 patients cured after conservative treatment.
At the end we found that there is a significant difference in cure rate between the two methods of treatment of vocal fold nodules with the surgical treatment has higher and faster cure rate than conservative treatment.
