Abstract Although neonatal tumors are rare, but represent a great challenge to neonatologists and oncologists. The most common neonatal tumors are sacrococcygeal teratoma, neuroblastoma and renal tumors, especially congenital mesoblastic nephroma, followed by congenital leukemia, soft tissue sarcoma, CNS tumors, hepatoblastoma and retinoblastoma. Many neonatal malignancies are inherited or occur spontaneously as the result of a de novo mutational event. The etiology of these tumors is likely multifactorial, including both genetic and environmental factors. The most common finding on physical examination is a palpable mass. Nonspecific symptoms such as irritability, lethargy, failure to thrive. Dramatic improvements in prenatal ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have had a significant impact on prenatal diagnosis, management and fetal outcome. |
