Abstract Newborn crying can have a prominent effect on the stability of the family. So we conclude that the parents who find their babies with persistent crying must consult the pediatricians who must consider the following:- (A) Benign causes:- Hunger, wet or soiled diaper, hole of the milk bottle teat, wind or gas formation in stomach, discomfort with atmosphere, lonely baby, sun in the eyes, tired baby tight clothing, mosquitoes bite, tense mother, habitual crying, mother’s diet and colic. (B) Pathological causes:- 1. Congenital and anatomical causes as intestinal obstruction, gastroesophageal reflux, volvulus, acute abdomen, neonatal testicular torsion, torsion ovarian cyst, anal fissure, urinary retention, meatal ulceration, glaucoma and anomalous coronary artery. 2. Infection as URTI, fever, cold, otitis media, otitis externa, neonatal meningitis, neonatal pneumonia, urinary tract infection, nappy rash (diaper dermatitis), acute osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, gastroenteritis and balanitis. 3. Drugs withdrawal causes and Drugs as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and Drug reactions. 4. Cow milk allergy and intolerance. 5. Trauma as Corneal abrasion, skull fracture, bone injury, intracranial hemorrhage, IV infiltration injuries, hair tourniquet syndrome and shaken baby syndrome. 6. Genetic/Metabolic causes as Hypoglycemia, phenylketonuria, Hypocalcaemia, hypernatremia, neonatal thyrotoxicosis and Cri du chat syndrome. |
