Abstract

Fast food being rich in saturated fatty acid is more common now among children and youth, that lead to increase incidence of hypercholesterolemia and hyperlipidemia predisposing them to atherosclerosis and heart disease.
More researches were carried out to study the relation of some foods ( herbies ) and hypercholesterolemia to decrease the liver, kidney and heart diseases which result from precipition of cholesterol in arteries.
According this study aimed to evaluation the therapeutic effect of some local market herbs formulae.
This work was specified to take part in solving the problem of possible use of the commercial herb collections called some times herb recipes or herb formulae. These prescriptions are formulated and sold in spice hops by the lrader without any scientific bases. But mostly depending on old books of traditional medicine. Very few they are produced by large companies, but their use is an archival recently, much clamor was arisen by doctors and medical authorities, against such prescriptions, due to possible great harm in the present study a total number of gram commercial herbs collections were investigated on rats in reflected of hypercholesterolemia and biological, biochemical and histopathological parameters were taken into consideration for appropriator rejection of any commercial herbal collection.
Summary
––––––––––––––––––––––––– 152 ––––––––––––––––––––––––
The results revealed the following:
1. Body weight ( BW ) gain in g higher for control ( + ) ( obese ) group ( + 38.0 + 1.73 g ) as compared with that of control ( – ) group ( + 29.5 + 1.50 g ). But this increase was apparent resulting from the initial higher weight; and when calculating as of BW gain as per cent of initial weight, control ( – ) rats showed higher ( + 19.5 % ) BWG % than the control ( + ) group ( 14.9 % ), showing that the gain actually was less for the control ( + ) rats. Anyhow, per cent increase of BWG gain % of initial value for control ( – ) group was 30.9 % compared to control ( + ) group.
2. Feeding of rats with commercial registered herbal formulations ( Sekem for Slimming, Royal Regime Tea & Pharaonic Herbs ) resulted in much greater Slimming when compared with the unregistered herbal collections ( Herbal Tea for Slimming & body Flexibility and Druggist Herbal Mixture ). BWG % of initial Wt. was – 30.3 to – 26.0 % of initial Wt. in the former case; being 23.1 – 36.0 % in the latter one.
3. Highest Slimming action recorded for Sekem for Slimming, followed by Royal Regime Tea, Pharaonic Herbs, Herbal Tea ( for Slimming and body Flexibility, then came the Druggist Herbal Mixture ). BWG % of initial Wt. were – 36.0, – 34.6, – 30.3, – 26.1 and – 23.1 % respectively, and per cent change of BW % of control
Summary

( + ) rats were – 341.6, – 332.2, – 303.4, – 275.2 and – 255.4 % respectively.
4. Development of obesity raised the feed intake ( FI ); per cent increase compared to control ( – ) rats was 33.91 %, and per cent decrease of control ( – ) rats was – 25.35 % compared to control (+) group.
5. Feeding on diet with commercial herbs collections lead to reduction of FI compared to control ( + ) rats provide that least FI recorded for unregistered herbal formulations ( Herbal Tea for Slimming and body Flexibility & Druggist Herbal Mixture ), while less reduction of FI recorded for the registered herbs collections.
6. Druggist Herbal Mixture, Herbal Tea for Slimming and body Flexibility, Druggist Herbal Mixture Pharaonic Herbs and Sekem for Slimming showed FI which was even less than that the healthy control (– ) rats.
7. All herbal formulations ( which showed less FI than control ” + ” group ), showed also less BWG indicating Slimming action.
8. When rats fed on commercial herbal collections assigned for Slimming FER decreased considerably. FER of control ( – ), control ( + ) and herbal treatments rats were + 0.042, 0.040 & – 0.120 to – 0.133. It seems possible that Slimming was parallel loss of appetite, less FI and lower FER.
Summary

9. Obesity led to the hypertrophy ( weight increase ) of the initial weight rats. Per cent increase of control ( + ) weight compared to control ( – ) rats were 154, 207, 220 & 281 % for liver, heart, kidney & spleen respectively. Such changes showed significant differences. Feeding of obese rats on herbal formulation diet traversed the internal organs weight which were significantly reduced compared to control ( + ) rats.
10. The atrophic effect of different herbal formulations ( decrease of internal organs weight ) was more or less similar. Numerically Sekem effect ( for Slimming ) came first, followed by Royal Regime Tea, Pharaonic Herbs, Herbal Tea ( for Slimming and Body Flexibility ) and finally the Druggist Herbal Mixture.
11. Correcting of weight increase of internal organs by obesity, was highest for kidney, followed by spleen, liver and then came the heart.
12. Correcting of the internal organs weight increase was complete for registered herbal formulations, while the reverse recorded for unregistered products, except in case of Herbal Tea for Slimming and Body Flexibility, for kidney weight only.
13. Due to obesity serum liver enzymes ( AST, ALT, ALP ) showed significant increase; AST / ALT ratio also significantly increase showing 11.11 % increase compared control ( – ) group ( not obese rats ).
