Abstract Tumors of the nose and paranasal sinus are of two types benign and malignant. Benign tumors are uncommon in comparison with malignant growths. The most common benign tumors (in decreasing order of frequency) are osteoma, hemangioma, papilloma, and angiofibroma. The two tumors of greatest interest are the inverted papilloma and the juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. The most common malignant tumors are squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, adenoid cyctic carcinoma, olfactory esthisioneuroblastoma. In contrast to many other areas in the head and neck, paranasal sinus tumors are not characterized by an early presentation. The typical delay in diagnosis is commonly cited as 8 months or more. This is secondary to the fact that the early symptoms seen by primary care physicians. Complains such as nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, and epistaxis rarely receive. |
