Abstract Thrombocytopenia post liver transplantation is a well recognized and prevalent early postoperative complication. It may contribute to postoperative morbidity and mortality. This work was done to study changes in platelet count in early postoperative period in liver transplant recipients and also to correlate these changes with short term survival. The study included 27 recipients underwent living donor liver transplantation in the national liver institute in the period from January 2004 till December 2007. All recipients were subjected to the following: Full history taking. Preoperative laboratory investigations. Abdominal ultrasonography and spiral triphasic CT abdomen. Assessment of severity of liver disease according to Child Pugh scoring system (CTP) and model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score. Intraoperative Packed RBC’s and platelets transfusion (frequency and amount). Graft ischemic times including cold and warm ischemic times. Immediate 3 days Postoperative frequency and amount of packed RBC’s and platelets transfusion. |
