Abstract

Equipment criticality evaluation is an important base for maintenance decision-making to prevent accidents and to optimize maintenance management in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), particularly in a new petrochemical plant. In the evaluation, the following are considered as the influential factors: production loss, safety effect, environment effect and maintenance effective. In addition, this study also introduces Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). An application study in a Petrochemical plant is provided as an example to demonstrate the feasibility of this model. The results show that this model is reliable and applicable for criticality evaluation of petrochemical equipment ID RCM. F~ally, based on the criticality evaluation results, some maintenance advices for RCM decision-making are proposed.
The main aim of this scientific report is evaluate the equipment criticality of a petrochemical Plant, this approach is based on calculating the criticality by using quantitative risk assessment technique for the equipment whose failure is likely to have the greatest impact on plant integrity, operational performance and maintenance costs.
The objectives of this analysis include quantifying the likely losses to which plant may be exposed through equipment failure, identifying, and prioritizing improvement areas
where plant may subsequently secure business benefits. .
The Proposed Equipment Criticality Analysis (ECA) is implemented in Petrochemical Plant is located in Mex area in Alexandria, EGYPT, owned by Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), for Production of Lube Oils, Gas oil, Naphtha, Fuel Oil, wax and Liquefied Petroleum Gas ”LPG” for domestic usage and exports the extra products. ECA resulted in grouping the major contributors on business performance. The result prioritized 21.36% of top line items which contributed to 65.95% offmancial impact on business as’ High Critical ” while the next 20.123% equipment contributed to an additional 16.84% impact on business are identified’ Medium Critical’. The bottom
58.51 % line items having only 17.11 % impact on Plant business are categorized as ’Low Critical’
Data for the criticality analysis was collected through extensive discussions with all relevant departments (including technical, operation, electrical, Instruments & control, mechanical, inspection, and planning), as well as from the availability Technical documents & drawings and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) History from Year 2006 till Year 2010, and it is found to be reliable after applying the proposed ECA evaluation approach.
