Abstract The present study is aimed for testing the healing of bony defects in long bones using bio-active glass and platelets rich plasma separately and together as mixture of both, follow up and examine the results and estimate the advantage of these materials in such surgerical injuries. The present study was carried out on 36 clinically healthy Babyon rabbits of different ages and sex ranged from 2-2.5 Kg body weights. The animals were housed and managed in separated cages. This study was performed in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagazig University- Department of Surgery. Two circular bony defects were created in both rabbit tibias, oneat the right side for testing the used material while the other at the left side used as control. The animals were divided randomly into three groups, each comprised 12 animals treated as follows:- I-Group I: - The right bony defect was filled with bio active glass only while the left one was lifted as a control. 2-Group D: - The right bony defect was filled with PRP gel while the left one was lifted as a control. 3-Group m: - The right bony defect was filled with a composite ofbio active glass and PRP, while the left one was lifted as a control. Each group was further reclassified into four groups each of three animals according to the time of slaughter at 15,30,45,60 days postoperation for clinical, radiological and histopathological examinations. The clinical evaluation revealed that, the animals were apparently in good health condition and significant weight gain was evident and reached about 4-4.5 Kg at time of their euthanasia |
