Abstract Diabetic retinopathy is diagnosed clinically with the onset of signs of vascular lesions, but in this study we suggest that the functional defects may precede these lesions so we recommends that intensive research work to be done in the early neural changes in order to help in early diagnosis, protection and treatment of DR. In this study we have seen Curcumin dietary supplement provide both structural and/ or functional protection of retinal layers, RGCs and glial cells against acute diabetes in rats so we recommended further study to be done in the effects of curcumin on retinal neural cells. These effect of curcumin in early diabetic retinopathy was without affecting the severity of the hyperglycemia so we recommended a research to be done combined the effects of insulin and curcumin by controlling the severity of hyperglycemia. Finally we suggest that curcumin can be a promising dietary or drug for treating different retinal or neural damages in CNS. |
