Abstract

Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris 1.) is an important crop grown for
its high content of sucrose. The sugar beet had its origin as a
sugar-production plant in northern Europe, from this place of
origin it has spread around the world, mainly in the temperate
zones (Bennett and Leach, 1971).
It is the second producting sugar crop after sugarcan in
Egypt. It’s considered a new crop for the Egyptian rotation. The
cultivated area has been increased in recent years from 15.684
feddans in 1982 to 49,296 feddans in 1991, (Anon (1991).
Sugarbeet can not only grown in fertile soil but also in
newly reclaimed regions as most soils of Kafr El-Sheikh
Governorate. This might explain gaol of the establishment of the
sole company of sugarbeet at El-Hamool, Kafr El-Sheikh
