Abstract The purpose of this work was to investigate the effect of different buffers on,digestibility, and rumen kinetics and metabolism of sheep fed halophyte plants as a basal diet in comparison with berseem hay. The first part was considered a preliminary experiment to evaluate the capacity of different buffers to overcome the metabolic disorders and its harmful effects that result from acid production in rumen. Three different buffers were used in this first study; Bentonite, MgO, and KCl. Rumen fluid was withdrawn from sheep fed on Berseem hay and barley grains on maintenance basis. Rumen samples incubated with either berseem hay or Atriplex halimus. Parameters of incubations were TDS, pH and Ec. Different concentrations of the buffers, 0.25%, 0.5% or 0.75% of total ration, were evaluated. Parameter measurements were taken at 0, 15, 30 and 60 minutes after the initiation of incubation. |
