Abstract

Pharmacognostical Study of Euphorbia peplus
L. Family Euphorbiaceae, Growing in Egypt
Euphorbia peplus L. is an annual erect, cylindrical, glabrous, light
green weed. It reaches about 25 cm in height with numerous branches, the
branches freely occur from the base. It carries simple alternate or
opposite, exstipulate, shortly petiolated ovate to broadly ovate leaves. The
Inflorescence (cyathium) is floral like, monoeious, yellowish green in
color. Flower bud appears in March and opens in April. The fruits are
capsules globular in shape, enclosing three seeds.
Reviewing the available literature, nothing could be traced
concerning the pharmacognostical study of E. peplus L. growing in Egypt
this provoked us to study this plant which include:
PART I: Botanical Study:
Including Macro- and micro morphological studies of the different
organs of E. peplus L. with the aim of finding out the diagnostic features
by which the plant could be identified in both entire and powdered forms.
PART II: Phytochemical Study:
Including phytochemical screening, extraction, fractionation,
isolation and identification of the different constituents of the plant.
PART III: Authentication of E. peplus L. using DNA fing.
