Abstract

Complementary/alternative therapy is a vastly resurging trend in all over the world. Many of the complementary and alternative therapies (CATs) that are practiced today come from traditional healing practices of many cultures, primarily those of China and India.
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative medicine (NCAM) in the USA did group CAT practices into four main domains: Mind-body interventions (MBT); Biologically-based therapies (BBT); Manipulative and body-based therapies (MBBT) and Energy therapies (ET). In addition, the whole medical systems (Alternative medical systems (AMS) which cut across all domains.
CATs modalities are used by all age groups in any culture - as a part of their health management traditions - for all health problems including Menstrual disorders. These disorders may be psychosomatic/physical, related to length of menstrual cycle, amount, or duration of blood loss. The psychosomatic/physical disorders of menstruation include premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and dysmenorrhea. While changes related to length of menstrual cycle includes: Amenorrhea ,Oligomenorrhea, and Polymenorrhea. The changes in the amount of blood loss include: Hypomenorrhea and Menorrhagia. While change in duration of menstrual cycle includes only Menostaxis. Finally changes in cyclicity and amount of blood loss include only Metrorrhagia.
When such menstrual disorders are already present the ways of their management are either positive or negative. Leading to numerous favorable or unfavorable health consequences.
In many communities including Egypt, adolescents tend to be silent about their menstrual disorders. Consequently they underutilize health care services for their management and restore to CATs.
