The material which this Study deals with is the Story of the Flood in the Epic of Gilgamesh, and this Story in the book of Genisis, and in the Holy Quran. because this Story is one of the important Stories in the literature of most peoples . One of the most common tells of a great flood that occurred in the distant past. The biblical story of Noah and the ark he built to save certain people and animals from the flood is just one version of a much older myth from Mesopotamia . Comparing the flood stories in the Gilgamesh Epic and Genesis, one is impressed with the numerous similarities between the two accounts. The common elements between the two have been perplexing for some scholars. Alexander Heidel shows the three main possibilities about the relationship between the two accounts: “first, the Babylonians borrowed from the Hebrew account; second, the Hebrew account is dependent on the Babylonian; third, both are descended from a common original.” Because the Epic written in Akkadian predates the Old Testament written in Hebrew, “The most widely accepted explanation today is the second, namely, that the biblical account is based on Babylonian material. Comparing this story between the previous two Sources and the same Story in the Holy Quran reveal that there are several differentiations between them . |
