Abstract

Sugar beet is Egypt since shortage in sugar cane area represents great problems in consuming water and soil. The area that allocated considered one of the most sugar production crops in to sugar beet in Egypt had increased mostly in the recent years. In 1981 season the sugar production in Egypt was restricted to sugar cane crop. The sugar beet production had started in 1982 season as it shared in the total sugar production by 2.5 % in the season. Recently, the contribution of sugar beet to sugar production increased largely, and reached 30 % of the total sugar production in 2005 season, whereas the sugar cane contribution was 70 % this mainly due to increasing cultivated sugar beet area from 16900 fed in 1982 season to 385686 fed. In 2010 season, and increasing sugar beet yield from 12.5 ton /fed. In 1982 season to 20.3 ton /fed in 2005 season. Also, there is a great competition among the winter crops (sugar beet, faba bean, onion, wheat, barely, clover, etc….) therefore it is a must to reduce this competition by intercropping some of these crops with the others as a trial to solve this problem.
