Abstract The main objective of this thesis is to consider soil-structure interaction in the analysis of structures. Two models of soil medium are used in the analysis. These are Winkler and continuum models. A comparison between the results obtained from using these models are performed for different types of soil. The analysis is carried out using the finite element technique for both superstructure and substructure. The computer program (ANASYS) is used in the analysis. An iterative procedure is performed for each structure in order to reach the actual profiles of contact pressure between footing and soil, the actual footing settlement and the final redistribution of bending moments in the frames. Another objective of this thesis is to study the behavior of cracked reinforced concrete beam on elastic foundation. Based on the stiffness matrix method and fracture mechanics techniques, a numerical model is developed to carry out the analysis. The obtained results are discussed for all studied variables and recommendations for structural analysis are drawn. |
