Abstract The main subject of this different photoperiods on some garlic h mainly, early maturity, growth and development and Also, this study was aimed to determine the least numbe2 supplemental light hours and the shorest period of’ exposure which gives the earliest maturing garlic and best bulb quality. The photoperiod treatments were conducted by giving 10 hr of natural day light to be supplemented by different number of artificial light hours or by once nd twice night interruption. Periods of exposure for 10,20 and 30 days and till maturity with daylength of 18 and 24 hours were also tried. These treatments were applied either 45 nr 90 days after planting. The results of this work can be summarized as follows:— I— Increasing the number of artificial light hours stimulated growth. The longer the days the earlier were the plants to reach their maximum leaf number, plant ,.eight, 0.5 bulbing ratio. Longer days, however, had a decreasing effect on clove number per bulb. Also, the longer periods of exposure had similar effect, 2— Artificial light exposure for all treatments seemed to be more effective when applied in early stages of growth ( 45 days after planting ) than in later stage. |
