Abstract These experiments were carried out to study the cytogenetic effect of synthetic pyrethroids (lambda-cyhalothrin) on mice. LCT considered one of widely spread insecticides allover the world and has adverse effects on human and animal health. As well as, in this study Nigella sativa oil which considered one of the greatest healing herbs in folk medicine was used to know if it has protective effect against LCT or not. Experiments were done on different mice groups as follow: 1-Acute Treatment: In this experiment 60 mice were divided into 6 groups. The first two groups were used as control one without any treatment and one administrated with 160 mg/kg.b.w. Nigella sativa oil orally, the third group was administered orally with 1/10 LD50 of LCT. The fourth group was administered the same dose of LCT+160 mg/kg .b.w. Nigella sativa oil. The fifth group was administrated with 1/5 LD50 of LCT while the sixth group was administrated 1/5 LD50 of +160 mg/kg.b.w. Nigella sativa oil. Half of animals in each group were scarified and samples were collected after 24h and the other half of animals were scarified after 48h from administration. from this experiment the effects of LCT and LCT+ Nigella sativa on chromosomal abnormalities and mitotic activity were reported. 2-Chronic Treatment: In this experiment 35 mice were divided into 7 groups. The first three groups were used as control (without any treatment, corn oil and Nigella sativa), the fourth group was administrated in diet daily 1/40 LD50 and the fifth group was administrated the same previous diet + N.S (7.9 ml/kg. of ration), the sixth group was administrated daily with 1/20 LD50 of LCT while the last group was administrated the same dose + N.S 7.9 ml/kg. of ration. Animals were scarified after 8 weeks of treatment to investigate the cytogenetic effect of LCT and + N.S oil as protective substance, chromosomal abnormalities, micronuclei and on mitotic activity. Also to evaluate some of histopathological effects of LCT on mice liver, kidney and brain& the possible protective effects of N.S oil against these effects. |
