Abstract Soybean, Glycine m a (L.) is one of the most important leguminous food crop all over the world. It plays a vital role in various industries due to its nutritional aspects for people and animal. It is an excellent alternative source of protein, as it has good nutritional quality and considers one of richest sources of oil (1 8-22%). is annually planted in Egypt in about 36,269,000 feddans. 1. Survey of insect pests and insect predators in soybean fields: 1.1. Survey of insect pests: In 2008 and 2009 seasons. Results revealed the presence of 8 insect species belonging to 7 families and 5 orders. These were 3 Homoptera species. Lepidoptera contains two species, but Diptera, Hemiptera and Thysanoptera had one species for each. All the surveyed insects are categoried as pests injurious to soybean plants. These pests were M. sojae, S. littoralis, Spodopteva exigua (Hubn). Nezara viridula (L.), Bemisia tabaci (Genn), A. gossypii , Empoasca spp.and Thrips tabaci (Lind). 1.2. Survey of insect predators: six insect predators, Coccinella undecimpunctata (Reiche), Scymnus spp., Paederus alfierii (Koch), Syrphus corolla (F.), Chrysoperla carnea (Steph.) and Orius spp. Scymnus spp., were recorded with the total number of 88 individuals per 204 soybean plants during the two seasons. The next common insect predators record in soybean fields were C. undecimpunctata and P. alfierii. Their total numbers was 65 individuals during the two seasons of 2008 and 2009. |
